The Department of State Services (DSS) officially validated the release of Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Thursday. This development comes after a period of detainment that began on June 14, 2023, when the DSS took Bawa into custody for undisclosed reasons. Notably, this detainment transpired shortly after Bawa’s meeting with President Bola Tinubu on the same day.
Peter Afunanya, the Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications at the DSS, stated the agency’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, confirming the release of Abdulrasheed Bawa. On the social media platform, he conveyed the news by posting, “DSS confirms release of former EFCC chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, a few hours ago, today, Oct. 25.” This announcement marks a significant turn of events. It has generated considerable attention and discussion in the public sphere.
