John Ovey, a Member of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA), representing Keffi East under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has lodged an appeal against the Election Petition Tribunal’s ruling that annulled his election and called for a rerun in four polling units within the constituency.
On Saturday, October 21, Ovey submitted a notice of appeal to the Court of Appeal, Makurdi Division. The appeal presents eight substantial grounds for contesting the Election Petition Tribunal’s decision, which was delivered on Sunday, October 1, 2023, with Justice Francesca Nnang Isoni presiding.
Through his legal representative, John Matthew, Ovey urged the appellate court to reverse the Tribunal’s verdict and uphold his victory, as originally declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the March 18 election.
Ovey argued that the petition filed against his election by Isah Adamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) lacked merit and should have been dismissed by the tribunal. The appeal includes Isah Adamu, APC, and INEC as the first, second, and third respondents, respectively.
