The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has called upon the Supreme Court to accept new documents as evidence against President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking in court on Monday, Atiku’s chief counsel, Chris Uche, SAN, emphasized the gravity and constitutional significance of the matter. He implored the court to consider their application and grant their request.
In presenting his argument, Uche stated, “The issue pertaining to Mr. Tinubu’s academic credentials is a substantial, weighty, and constitutional one that the Supreme Court should entertain. I urge the court to accept the fresh evidence of President Tinubu’s educational records from CSU, as presented by Atiku. The Supreme Court should thoroughly examine Mr. Tinubu’s records and make a decision free from technicalities.”
On the other hand, INEC’s lawyer, Abubakar Mahmoud, recommended that the Supreme Court reject Atiku’s application to introduce Tinubu’s academic records.
Tinubu’s chief counsel, Wole Olanipekun, SAN, argued that INEC should have been part of the deposition proceedings in the United States, stressing that the CSU depositions remain inactive until the deponent appears in court to testify. He asserted that Atiku cannot seek fresh evidence at the Supreme Court.
