The PDP secretariat located in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, has been closed. Presently, officers from the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) and operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS) are stationed at the secretariat.
This development is believed to be linked to the PDP members’ plan to stage a protest concerning the prolonged absence and unknown whereabouts of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. In September, Governor Akeredolu returned to the country after a three-month medical stay in Germany, where he received treatment for an undisclosed ailment.
However, since his return, Akeredolu has reportedly been residing in his private residence in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, a situation that has led critics of his administration to demand his resignation.
The primary opposition party, PDP, had previously announced its intention to organize a significant protest in Akure to demand information regarding his whereabouts. At the time of this report, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Ondo State, was unavailable for immediate comment.
