The Sokoto State Police Command has affirmed its unwavering commitment to maintaining a focused and professional approach in fulfilling its responsibilities. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Kaigama, conveyed this assurance during his message of goodwill at the State Congress of the Nigerian Union of Journalists held on Saturday.
CP Kaigama expressed his contentment with the positive working relationship between the council and the state police command. He further guaranteed the state’s residents that their individual human rights would be safeguarded without bias or prejudice.
Abubakar Mohammed Sokoto, from the Sociology Department at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, delivered a presentation titled “Mass Media and National Security in Nigeria: Balancing Professional Ethics with National Interests.” He encouraged journalists to prioritize the country’s interests in their reporting and advocated for thorough verification of news items before publication to reduce the dissemination of fake news in society.
The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Sambo Bello Danchadi, assured journalists in the state of the government’s support to enable them to fulfill their duties to the public. He also urged journalists, not only in Sokoto but across the nation, to place a stronger emphasis on developmental journalism.
At the outset of the gathering, Dalhatu Abdullahi Maigori, the State Chairman of the council, stated that the Congress was convened to examine matters pertaining to the operations of journalists within the state.
