“Oluyole Spikers Shine with a 3-1 Victory Over Safety Spikers in 2023 National Division 2 Volleyball League, Leaving Coach Aboderin Thrilled”
Oluyole Spikers secured a 3-1 victory against Safety Spikers at the 2023 National Division 2 Volleyball League’s second phase in Kaduna, marking their fourth win out of six in the tournament. The head coach, Ayokunnu Aboderin, expressed his delight at his team’s performance, according to IWITNESSLIVE Sports.
In the match, Oluyole Spikers triumphed with scores of 25-15, 25-15, 20-25, and 25-16 at the indoor sports hall of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium. This win continued Oluyole Spikers’ resurgence after two early defeats in the second phase of the championship.
The youthful Oluyole Spikers showed their prowess in the first and second sets, each with a score of 25-22 against Safety Spikers. While Safety Spikers made a comeback in the third set with a 25-20 win, Joel Taiwo’s powerful spikes sealed the victory for Oluyole in the fourth set.
Speaking after the win, Aboderin said he was happy with his young players’ performance.
“When we started this phase, it was due to fatigue that we lost the first two matches and since then we have been winning. It gives me joy because winning four games out of six is still a better result and we have one more game to go and that is against Sword. We are hoping to win that also,” he said.
“The lads have improved than when we started the first phase in Imo. We discovered our lapses and we improved on them and people can see the difference to what we had in Imo; we have a better team now and we equally stand a better chance of winning.
“It is through hard work, dedication and support of some of our association members that we have been able to put this squad together. We have a lot of young players who are good enough to play for the Nigeria U-17 team and that is a plus to the federation.”
In the other game, Ajase Ipo surprisingly beat Olalomi Spikers 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-23).
