The BBC’s disinformation team has released a report regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s academic credentials. The report, titled ‘Bola Tinubu diploma: No evidence Nigeria’s president forged college record,’ concludes that there is no evidence of President Tinubu forging his certificate.
Claims of President Tinubu’s certificates being forged spread widely on social media after Chicago State University (CSU) published the president’s academic records.
The revelation of his academic credentials is the culmination of a legal case initiated in August by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), one of his main rivals in the February presidential election.
The BBC reached this conclusion after contacting CSU to inquire about its diplomas.
In response to the questions CSU said, “We are confident and always have been in the veracity and integrity of our records regarding Tinubu’s attendance and completion of graduation requirements.”
