The Katsina State Police Command has officially acknowledged the abduction of five female students from the Federal University, Dutsinma, and the subsequent arrest of a man suspected to be an informant to the terrorists.
As of Wednesday morning, no specific details regarding the incident have been released. However, the spokesperson for the Katsina Police Command, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed both the abduction and the arrest.
He said, “Yes, the incident happened. An arrest has been made. I cannot say anything more than that for now as I am on my way to the institution. Our men are already on the ground there and are on top of the situation.”
According to residents, the terrorists launched an attack on the private residence of the victims at approximately 2 a.m. on Wednesday, firing shots indiscriminately. It has been reported that all five of the abducted students were female and in their final year of studies.
Efforts to obtain comments from the university’s management regarding the incident were unsuccessful. The university’s spokesperson, Habib Umar, was reportedly engaged in a management meeting, and his phone went unanswered.
On the main campus, there were only a few students present, as many of them had just completed their first-semester examinations.
Additionally, it has been reported that a 200-level computer science and information technology student, Abubakar Barda, lost his life during a dispute with other students over a female student. Six students have been detained in connection with this incident.
