On Wednesday, the Lagos State Police Command secured a remand warrant to extend the detention of two individuals: Azeez Fashola, widely recognized as Naira Marley, and a music promoter known as Balogun Eletu, also identified as Sam Larry. This extension goes beyond the 48-hour limit stipulated by the constitution. This action is part of an ongoing investigation into the demise of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, who was also known as Mohbad.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this development during an exclusive telephone interview with our correspondent on Wednesday. Hundeyin clarified that on Wednesday, the duo was not arraigned in court regarding the case itself. Instead, they were brought to court to obtain a remand warrant, allowing for their continued detention beyond the constitutional 48-hour timeframe. This step was taken to prevent accusations of over-detention and was necessary to secure the remand warrant in court.
“And we indeed got the warrant, but I can’t ascertain the number of days granted yet; I’d make it available to you once I obtain it.”
According to Iwitnesslive, Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, in Lagos, and was laid to rest the following day. However, about a week later, his body was exhumed. Nevertheless, both Naira Marley and Sam Larry faced accusations of involvement in his demise, allegations they vehemently refuted.
The late artist’s departure from Marlian Records, owned by Naira Marley, had been surrounded by controversy the previous year, and his relationship with his former boss remained strained thereafter.
In the meantime, the Lagos State Police Command has issued a warrant for the arrest of singer Owodunni Ibrahim, also known as Prime Boy, who was a friend of the deceased. This action was taken due to his failure to respond to invitations related to Mohbad’s passing.
Hundeyin conveyed this information in a statement on Wednesday..
“Following his failure to honour police invitation successfully sent to him since the commencement of investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of Mr Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad, the Lagos State Police Command hereby declares wanted Owodunni Ibrahim aka Primeboy.
“Ibrahim is approximately 1.64-m tall, male, dark-complexioned with tribal marks and Yoruba by tribe. His last known address is 3rd Power, Oke Eletu, Ikorodu.
“If seen, contact the nearest police station or call 0803 688 5727. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Idowu Owohunwa, hereby offers a handsome reward of N1,000,000 (One Million Naira Only) to anyone with useful information leading to his arrest,” the statement read.
