Delta State track athlete Clifford Igbigbidje, who clinched four gold medals across various racing events during the recently concluded 7th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State, is determined to surpass his current achievements in upcoming Games and other competitions.
Igbigbidje, who emerged victorious in the 100m boys, 200m boys, 4x100m Boys, and 4×100 Team race events, expressed his dissatisfaction with his performance consistency in this tournament, which marked his debut. He aims to improve his performance in future events.
“These medals mean a lot to me, and I’m thankful to God for them. I also extend my gratitude to my coach for guiding me this season. While things have been going well, they haven’t gone exactly as planned. I hope to perform even better in my upcoming competitions,” said the 13-year-old athlete.
He acknowledged that in his previous race, he completed the 100m final in a relatively comfortable 11.23 seconds. However, in the finals, he didn’t feel as fast and couldn’t deliver his best performance, which he attributed to inconsistency. Nonetheless, he remains grateful for his achievements.
Igbigbidje also told IWITNESSLIVE Sports that he hopes he can achieve success in lifting his family up and helping the youths in his school.
“I hope to use this athletics career to bring out my family from where we are right now and help the youths in my school. I hope to help whosoever I can help.
“My family isn’t really doing too fine right now, but I can say we are comfortable by God’s grace I want us to be one of the best families you can think of,” he told The us.
The JSS3 student ran his personal best of 11.24secs in heat one of the 100m race and has set a target of going under the 11 seconds mark before the year 2023 runs out.
“This is my first Youth Games and I plan to come for more Youth Games, I just want to be the best and go below 11 seconds before the year runs out,”
he said.
