Three teenagers suspected of being involved in armed robbery were apprehended by Delta State Police Command operatives after raiding their ‘Shawarma’ base at the popular Enerhen Junction in Warri.
Two male gang members, Idigbe Osreis (19) and Idigbe Perfect (16), were reportedly captured at their hideouts.
According to PUNCH Metro, a police undercover operative in the area spotted one of the suspected teenage robbers, named Gift Peace, and trailed him to the Suya spot, where he was apprehended.
On September 29, 2023, the Divisional Police Officer ‘B’ Division, Warri, SP Bolarinwa Alabi, received a distress call about an armed robbery operation at Giwamu Junction in Warri. Acting on the directive of the state commissioner of police, CP Wale Abass, the DPO led an intelligence-led operation with his team and eventually apprehended the 14-year-old suspect at the aforementioned Suya spot.
During interrogation, the teenager reportedly confessed to being a member of an armed robbery gang that terrorized Warri and its environs, claiming he had been involved in criminal activities since he was seven years old. He also provided information about other gang members and led detectives to their hideouts.
Upon seeing the police operatives, the gang members, who were on an unregistered operational tricycle, opened fire. The operatives responded, resulting in one of the suspects, identified as the gang’s leader, suffering serious gunshot wounds and later succumbing to his injuries at the hospital. His accomplices managed to escape.
Recovered exhibits from the suspects included their operational tricycle, one locally made cut-to-size single barrel gun with expended cartridges, and three live cartridges.
Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining gang members and recover additional operational weapons.
The state Commissioner of Police, Abass, emphasized the importance of responsible parenting in the fight against crime, urging parents to monitor and educate their children to avoid bad company and criminal activities.
