The nationwide strike declared to commence on Tuesday by the organised labour may be hold as the Federal Government again moved to avert the impeding industrial action by meeting with the leadership of the Nigetia Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress.
The Labour Centres had announced that it would mobilise Nigerians for an indefinite strike action to protest the hardship caused by the removal of fuel subsidy and other policies of the President Bola Tinubu government.
The unions are saying that to avert the strike action, their demands should be met by the government for the amelioration of the pains caused by its policies.
There have been back and forth engagement between the two parties but the unions were not satisfied with the level of commitment from the government hence its decision to embark on the industrial action to force the hand of government.
However, the Federal Government and Labour leaders are expected to meet today in an effort to find a common ground and avert the planned nationwide industrial action from Wednesday.
According to sources, the meeting is expected to take place at the Aso Villa and will commence at 12 noon.
Remember that on Friday, in a last-ditch effort to prevent the anticipated statewide strike on October 3, leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and their Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) counterparts avoided a meeting convened by the Federal Government.
The government’s invitation, according to the two labor centers, was late because they had commitments outside of Abuja.
The administration rescheduled the meeting at the request of the leaders of the Labour Party.
