Katsina varsity student dies in fight with 7 others over girlfriend

An unfortunate incident unfolded in the Darawa quarters of Dutsinma Local Government Area, Katsina State, where a 200-level Computer Science student from the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) lost his life during a heated altercation over a girlfriend. The tragic confrontation occurred last Thursday at approximately 1:20 p.m., involving eight undergraduates and sending shockwaves throughout the institution.

The Katsina State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday. He explained that the altercation, initially a fervent argument among the students, escalated tragically, resulting in the loss of one student involved.

ASP Sadiq further stated that the Command has initiated efforts to gather and carefully analyze all available evidence, including witness statements, with the primary aim of comprehending the events while adhering to principles of justice and fairness. Six students linked to the altercation have been taken into custody.

The statement clarified that the student’s untimely death was not related to a “religious issue,” dismissing such rumors circulating on social media.

The Police urged the public to disregard baseless speculations and misconceptions and assured transparency as the investigation continues. They invited individuals with relevant information about the incident, assuring the confidentiality of their contributions.

Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Musa, called for calm among the general public, offering heartfelt condolences to the affected family and friends and extending sympathy and support to the institution’s management.
