A man named Stephen Monday has been remanded at a correctional center by the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court. He is facing allegations of defiling his lover’s four-year-old daughter. Justice Abiola Soladoye ordered Monday’s remand after he entered his plea.
The defendant is charged with defilement of a child, a charge brought against him by the Lagos State Government. The Director of Public Prosecution, Dr. Babajide Martins, informed the court that the defendant committed the offense on February 14, 2021.
Martins explained that the incident occurred around 5 am at No. 5, Ayeloja in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. The prosecution alleged that the defendant had sexual intercourse with the four-year-old girl. This action is in violation of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. Following his plea, Martins requested a trial date. Consequently, Justice Soladoye ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody until his bail is perfected. The case is scheduled to commence trial on November 9, 2023.
