The National and State Houses of Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal, convening in Jos, has invalidated the election of Moses Sule, the current representative for the Mikang State constituency. Sule, who belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and currently serves as the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, had his election nullified on Friday.
In addition to nullifying the Speaker’s election, the tribunal directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to revoke the certificate of return previously issued to him and award it to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Daniel Nanlong, who received the second-highest number of votes in the election.
The tribunal’s ruling against the Speaker was based on the contention that his party, the PDP, lacked the legal framework to nominate him as a candidate for the last election.
