Just In: Omo-Agege heads to Appeal Court over tribunal judgement

The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has instructed his legal team to promptly initiate an appeal against the recent judgment of the governorship election tribunal, which upheld Sheriff Oborevwori’s election as Delta State governor.

Senator Omo-Agege asserted that the Tribunal failed to acknowledge the fundamental flaws that fatally undermined the credibility of the March 18, 2023, gubernatorial election, thereby making the declaration of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner untenable.

The Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, in a ruling delivered on Friday, dismissed Omo-Agege’s petition on the grounds of lacking merit. The three-member tribunal, presided over by Justice C. H. Ahuchaogu, affirmed Oborevwori’s victory in the gubernatorial election.

In response to the judgment, Senator Omo-Agege expressed his intention to appeal the decision. In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Sunny Areh, he acknowledged his respect for the panel’s decision but believed it was flawed.

The former Senate President said: “It is a no-brainer that the Tribunal operated under a very challenging environment.

“It therefore ignored the unassailable evidence adduced to question the validity of lawful votes as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

“I respect the decision of the Tribunal, but it is flawed. I have no doubt that these flaws which the Tribunal failed to address will be dispassionately evaluated at the Court of Appeal.

“I have, therefore, directed my legal team to immediately proceed to the Court of Appeal and continue with the fight to restore the sanctity of the people’s vote,” Senator Omo-Agege stated.
