Despite their 1-0 victory over Motherwell in the Scottish Premier League on Sunday, Glasgow Rangers coach Michael Beale expressed dissatisfaction with Nigerian forward Cyriel Dessers and his fellow teammates, as reported by IWITNESSLIVE Sports Extra.
Dessers netted the decisive goal in the first half at Ibrox, finding the target 24 minutes into the game to secure Rangers’ fourth win of the season.
While Motherwell posed a challenge for Rangers, Dessers’ goal proved to be the match-winner and marked his first league goal.
In his post-match interview, Beale praised the play that led to the goal but did not conceal his disappointment with his team’s overall performance.
“It was a good goal; it was something that we have worked on. The goal was really good play. If you play it back, the combination play between them was really good play so in that sense, in that moment, they have shown what they are capable of,” Beale told Rangers TV.
“At the end of the game, the only thing you have as a coach and player is the next game, which is huge. There is an opportunity for everyone, when you play you have to show the quality.
“I’m looking for more from this group of players and my staff as well. I don’t take one bit of comfort from this win. It wasn’t a game I enjoyed at all; I don’t think the players enjoyed it either. We have two more games this week and it’s down to me and the players to respond and show better than what we did in this game. it was nowhere near good enough.”
Dessers has scored three goals for the club since joining them from Cremonese in the summer.
Rangers are third in the Scottish Premiership with 12 points from six matches and return to action on Wednesday in the quarter-finals of the League Cup against Livingston, before facing Aberdeen on Saturday.
