A 15-man Industry Advisory Committee for ICT Skills has been inaugurated by Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Lagos to leapfrog technology development in the institution.
The Rector, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul, while inaugurating the Committee to be chaired by Mr. Olajide Faheed, said the move marked a significant milestone in the college’s commitment to foster excellence in technology education and bridge the gap between the town and gown.
The Rector, who declared that “the world we live in today is heavily influenced by Information and Communication Technology,” said, “It permeates every aspect of our lives from education and healthcare to business and entertainment.”
While underscoring the importance of staying at the forefront of technological advancements, the college, he noted, is dedicated to producing graduates who are not only academically proficient but also well-equipped to meet the demands of the ever-evolving technology industry.
“The Industry Advisory Committee for ICT Skills which brings together a distinguished group of industry leaders, experts, and educators will serve as a bridge between the institution and the dynamic technology sector,” the Rector added.
Abdul further explained that the primary goal of the Committee is to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, ideas and best practices between the college and the technology industry.
He said: “With the guidance of these industry leaders, the college aims at creating a learning environment that fosters innovation, entrepreneurship and the development of cutting-edge skills.”
The Rector also expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the members of the committee for their willingness to contribute their time, expertise, and insights to ICT skills development, stating that their involvement reflects their commitment to the future of the students, college and the growth of the nation’s technology ecosystem.
He, therefore, acknowledged the hard work of the dedicated staff who have been instrumental in bringing this committee to fruition and embarking on a journey to empower the students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in the digital era.
“As the Industry Advisory Committee for ICT Skills is being inaugurated, there is a sense of optimism and determination in the air as the collaboration between Yaba College of Technology and industry leaders will shape the future of technology education and contribute to the development and progress of Nigeria’s technology landscape,” Abdul said.
Other members of the Committee are representatives of YABATECH; COMTEAN; National Board for Technical Education; Meaconsat Limited; Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and the Manufactures Association of Nigeria.
