The Minister of Niger Delta Development, Abubakar Momoh, held a meeting with former leader of the now-defunct Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo. The purpose of this meeting was to seek ongoing collaboration aimed at maintaining peace in the region, optimizing oil production, and reducing oil theft.
The meeting occurred on Sunday in Oporoza, the headquarters of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State. Additionally, the minister met with the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Oboro-Gbaraun II, Aketekpe, Agadagba, as part of his strategic consultation efforts to address the multifaceted challenges in the oil-rich region.
Accompanying the minister were the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, and other high-ranking officials from the Niger Delta ministry.
During the meeting, Minister Momoh, representing President Muhammadu Buhari, discussed strategies to combat crude oil theft and improve infrastructure in the region. He emphasized the importance of continued efforts to maintain peace, optimize oil production, and minimize oil theft in the Niger Delta region.
