The Yoruba Council Worldwide announced on Monday that it has assembled a team of lawyers to offer pro bono legal services to assist the family of the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. Their aim is to ensure that all actions taken in relation to Mohbad’s case adhere to the rule of law and standard practices.
During a press conference held in Abuja on Monday, the President of the council, Oladotun Hassan, shared this development.
The cause of Mohbad’s death, which occurred on September 12 at the age of 27, remains uncertain and has sparked controversy. In response, the Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode, directed the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, to establish a panel of inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the singer’s death.
Furthermore, the Lagos State Police Command has disclosed that an autopsy has been conducted on Mohbad’s remains. They are currently awaiting the results of the autopsy, which was carried out by pathologists after the exhumation of the body last Thursday.
Speaking about the development at the press conference on Monday, Hassan said, “The Yoruba Council Worldwide has raised a team of lawyers to provide free legal services to the family of late musical talent, Ilerioluwa Aloba aka Mohbad. We hereby register our heartfelt condolences and commiserate with his family, fans, and all his admirers on his painful exit on September 12, 2023, from this terrestrial world under excruciating pains, depression, suppression, harassment, intimidation, bullying, aggravated premeditated murder and suspicious circumstances.
“We are deeply pained and saddened by the untimely demise of the late superstar, the highly talented Yoruba-born musician who was immensely blessed and extraordinarily gifted with aesthetic musical excellence that was embellished with glitz, glamour and boundless energy while alive, yet he foresaw his death. It is extremely painful and sad to see his short-lived sojourn on earth; brief, painful, sudden and mysterious, but as they say, it is not how far, but how well in life, then, with a short sojourn in life, it could be unarguably agreed that he bestrode the music world like a colossus and shone more colourfully and exceptionally as a rare megastar with uncommon mission and unassuming philosophy.”
The council further noted that Mohbad’s popularity has continued to grow more resoundingly and exponentially even in death, adding that he has continued to shake the world to its foundations.
“Regrettably, his mysterious death has eventually created an indefatigable platform for unraveling many shoddy mysteries in the entertainment and music industry, and as the police forensic investigation continues, we use this medium to call for calm and peace in Nigeria. We have set out free Legal support services to assist the family and ensure all steps taken are done in accordance with the rule of law and standard practice.
“We strongly believe that his death has already revolutionized the entertainment industry and shall continue to serve as an enlightenment pedestal for the present and future generation music artists. We are rest assured that a robust investigation would definitely unravel the remote cause and circumstances behind his death, and whosoever has a hand in his sudden demise will surely be made to face the full wrath of the law,” Hassan added.
