In a late-night incident on Sunday, suspected gunmen kidnapped a businessman named Sikiru Bosere and one of his employees in Jebba, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State. The incident unfolded at approximately 10:30 p.m. as the victims were preparing to enter their residence.
Sikiru, whose business revolves around charcoal exportation, was forcibly taken by the assailants along with his assistant, identified as Mr. Philemon. According to a source, the kidnappers had set up an ambush near Sikiru’s residence in the Labour camp, Jebba, and struck when his assistant was in the process of opening the gate upon their arrival.
“But when he saw them, the boy tried to escape but was seriously beaten. The kidnappers later whisked them into the bush through the second gate in the house”, the source said.
He further added, “Nobody could get close to them because of the way they were shooting sporadically.”
The Public Relations Officer of the state command, SP Ajayi Okasanmi, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Monday saying that one of the victims has been rescued.
He said the police have since launched “a search and rescue operation.”
“A case of kidnapping was received early this morning, one victim already rescued while efforts are ongoing to rescue the remaining victim and possibly arrest the kidnappers,” Okasanmi said.
