Reported Gunmen Abduct Assistant Superintendent of Police in Bauchi’s Toro Town
In the town of Toro, located in the Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi state, suspected gunmen have allegedly kidnapped an Assistant Superintendent of Police.
According to reports, the gunmen carried out their attack on Friday night, initiating a hail of sporadic gunfire that plunged the entire town into chaos as residents sought refuge.
An unnamed resident of the town described how the gunmen, numbering several, descended upon the town around 9:00 p.m., discharging their firearms into the air, and creating a state of panic among the inhabitants.
The frequent incidents of ransom-driven kidnappings in the Toro Local Government Area have had a detrimental impact on the area’s economic activities in recent times, dissuading people from engaging in business there due to fears of abduction.
In response, Ismail Dabo, the House of Representatives member representing Toro Federal Constituency, denounced the incident and appealed for calm.
Dabo characterized the occurrence as regrettable, especially given the prevailing economic circumstances. He reassured the community of ongoing legislative initiatives aimed at resolving the security challenges they face.
Despite multiple attempts to obtain a statement from the Bauchi State Police Command regarding the incident, no response was received. Numerous calls to the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, went unanswered, and he did not respond to text messages sent to his phone.
