The Kano State House of Assembly has suspended Khalid Ishaq Diso, Chairman of Gwale Local Government Council, for three months due to allegations of selling government properties.
Diso was accused by councilors and the Vice Chairman will take over the council’s affairs while an investigation is ongoing. Lawmakers announced the suspension after hearing a report from the House standing committee on local governments and chieftaincy affairs during a plenary session presided over by the Speaker, Alhaji Isma’il Jibril Falgore.
The committee scrutinized the allegations in the petition by six of the 10 Gwale councilors, including illegal selling of government properties and making decisions without consultations.
The Assembly pointed out that, 6 “Six Gwale local government councilors out of 10, petitioned the House over what they described as unconstitutional activities of the chairman.
“The Gwale Chairman is also being accused of making unilateral decisions without carrying the councilors along.
“The House set up an ad hoc committee, under the leadership of the Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Butu, to investigate the allegations and report back within two months.
“The House adopted the recommendations of the committee, and unanimously agreed to suspend the chairman Alhaji Khalid Ishaq Diso,” Kano State Speaker, Ismail Jibril Falgore, said.
