Food Palliatives Distributed to Constituents by Bariga LGA Chairman

Hon. Kolade David, the Chairman of Bariga Local Government Area in Lagos State, has initiated a program to provide food palliatives to support the residents of the area in response to the impact of subsidy-related changes in the country. A total of 5,000 food palliatives were distributed to members of the community, and beneficiaries were selected from various parts of the local government area.

To ensure a systematic and fair distribution process, the council had previously distributed eligibility cards to constituents. These cards were presented by the beneficiaries when they received their food staples during the distribution event.

The local government chairman and his team reportedly personally distributed these eligibility cards to residents across the community. According to Kunle Oladele, the administrative head of the council, the quantity of food palliatives provided was sufficient for all those who were present at the distribution point.

This initiative aims to alleviate the economic challenges faced by residents in the face of subsidy-related issues and is an example of local government efforts to support the welfare of the community during challenging times.

“It was quite impressive and unprecedented as almost the whole of Bariga Communities thronged the venue of the Food Palliatives distribution, to the extent that the gate of the venue was pulled down by the people. Surprisingly, everyone who came to the venue with the card went back home with a food pack regardless of whether they knew someone in the Council or not.

“The first time I saw food distribution given directly to the people, regardless of who you are. The Chairman was even seen sharing eligibility cards to many people who came to the venue without cards. It is important to note here that, everyone who came to that venue went back home with a food package, yet there were leftovers filling a Coaster Bus.”
