Super Eagles assistant coach Finidi George is supremely confident the team can win the next African Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire to validate his dream of lifting the trophy as a coach.
Finidi was an integral part of the squad that won the tournament in 1994 and he retains confidence he could achieve the same feat as a member of the technical crew.
The former Real Betis winger said they are going to Ivory Coast with a winning mindset.
“Every country wants to win the AFCON before the AFCON but when you get there it all depends on how you start the tournament.
“If you start well the confidence builds up, that will take you even further so we aim to win it, but you never know what can happen.
“We’ll go there with the mindset to win it. The first mission for the AFCON is to win it”, he stated.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has said he hopes to feature in his third World Cup.
The most capped Nigeria international said he will be back on the squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in November after he was left out of today’s final 2023 AFCON group game against Sao Tome and Principe.
“I hope to be back soon for the World Cup qualifiers,” Ahmed Musa told BBC.
“It’s my dream to play in another World Cup.
“I believe we have a squad that is equally determined to qualify.”
Sivasspor winger Ahmed Musa only recently recovered from injury at his Turkish club.
He has already played at two World Cups – 2014 and 2018.
