2 persons die in Lagos-Abeokuta expressway accident

On Sunday, the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) reported a tragic accident that resulted in the loss of two lives and injuries to another individual. The incident involved a Mazda bus and an unregistered Mazda car and occurred at Ayedere village on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.

Mr. Babatunde Akinbiyi, the spokesperson for TRACE, confirmed the details of the accident in a statement to the press in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State. According to Akinbiyi, the accident transpired at approximately 7:10 a.m. in Ayedere village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Ewekoro local government area in the state.

Akinbiyi disclosed that the primary cause of the accident was attributed to the driver of the unregistered Mazda car, who was observed driving against the flow of traffic. This reckless maneuver led to a head-on collision with the Mazda bus, bearing the registration SEY 311 ZY.

Regrettably, both drivers of the two vehicles involved in the accident lost their lives, succumbing to the impact of the collision. Meanwhile, a motor boy who was also aboard one of the vehicles sustained injuries. Promptly, the injured motor boy was rescued and transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment prior to the arrival of TRACE personnel.

Akinbiyi further revealed that the family of the deceased car driver had taken custody of his body for burial arrangements, whereas the body of the bus driver was placed in the morgue at Ifo General Hospital.

This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and driving safely to prevent such tragic accidents on the roadways.

” According to eyewitnesses, the white Mazda bus, loaded with foodstuffs was on its rightful lane, outbound Abeokuta.

“The unregistered Mazda car, driving in a direction prohibited by traffic law collided with the bus, leaving the drivers of both vehicles dead on the spot due to the impact of the collision.

” The motor boy of the white Mazda bus sustained varying degrees of injuries and has been taken to a private clinic for medical attention,” he said.
