Gunmen kill three in Benue

Unknown gunmen have carried out a deadly attack in Ugba, the headquarters of Logo Local Government Area in Benue State, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including two members of the Benue State Volunteer Guards.

According to reports, the two volunteer guards were killed in Ugba, while the third victim, a female, was fatally shot in Abeda-Shitile, also in Logo LGA. The attack occurred on Thursday afternoon, during which the gunmen indiscriminately fired upon villagers.

Additionally, several others sustained varying degrees of injuries as a result of the attack. Terser Agber, the former chairman of the local government, confirmed the incident and stated that two individuals were killed in the attack.

Such incidents of violence and insecurity continue to pose challenges in various parts of Nigeria, and local communities are often left to deal with the devastating consequences.

“Yes, two people who were officers of a disbanded vigilante group were killed by unknown gunmen, they were personnel of the present volunteer guards”.

The Public Relations Officer of the Benue Community Volunteer Guard, Ahokegh Terkimbi, told our correspondent on the telephone that two people were killed by the gunmen.

He said, “One of the deceased had been trained and the other not yet trained.

Terkimbi, who said he was yet to have details of the incident, added that both deceased served in the defunct vigilante in the area before one of them was recently trained and awaiting induction into the BCVG.

Meanwhile, the Spokesperson for Benue Police, SP Catherine Anene, said she was not aware of the incident.
