The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has expressed its readiness to collaborate with Human Rights Radio to address issues concerning Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in Nigeria.
Mr. James Lalu, the Executive Secretary of NCPWD, emphasized the importance of this partnership in raising awareness about the rights and needs of PwDs and garnering support for them in society.
During a courtesy visit to Mr. Ahmed Isa, the founder of Human Rights Radio (101.1FM) in Abuja, Mr. Lalu commended the radio station for its efforts in broadcasting programs related to disability issues and encouraged them to continue this valuable work.
He also highlighted the Accessibility Standard Law, which mandates organizations to make their facilities accessible to PwDs. The law is set to be enforced by January 2024, and the NCPWD has the authority to seal public facilities that do not comply with the Minimum Accessibility Standards for Persons with Disabilities.
Mr. Ahmed Isa, in response to the partnership proposal, pledged to offer one year of free service to the NCPWD. He indicated that the station would dedicate airtime every Thursday to discuss disability-related topics in collaboration with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection (FCCP). Furthermore, Mr. Isa expressed his commitment to supporting the commission in creating awareness and addressing critical issues affecting PwDs.
Mr. Lalu appreciated the dedication and passion of the NCPWD Boss in providing essential support to the disability community in Nigeria.
