During the tribunal sitting for the recently concluded presidential elections, the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi, was conspicuously absent. When the Tribunal Chairman, Justice Haruna Tsammani, called for the introduction of petitioners and responders at 9:34 a.m., Julius Abure, the embattled chairman of the LP, stood in for Peter Obi.
Vice-President Kashim Shettima identified himself as the primary responder, along with Abdullahi Ganduje, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.
As reported by The PUNCH, the judgment scheduled for Wednesday will be delivered by Tribunal Chairman Justice Haruna Tsammani, with assistance from other panel members: Justices Stephen Adah, Monsurat Bolaji-Yusuf, Moses Ugo, and Abba Mohammed.
The petitions, bearing the marks CA/PEPC/03/2023, CA/PEPC/05/2023, and CA/PEPC/04/2023, were filed with the court by Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate; Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, a former Vice President, and the Peoples Democratic Party candidate; and the Allied Peoples Movement, respectively.
On March 1, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared that the presidential election held on February 25 was won by Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress. Tinubu secured a total of 8,794,726 votes, surpassing the two main contenders: Alhaji Atiku of the PDP, who came in second with 6,984,520 votes, and Mr. Obi of the LP, who secured third place with 6,101,533 votes.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the election’s outcome, both Atiku and Obi have turned to the court in an attempt to challenge its validity.
