OAU Alumni Outline Plans for 60th Anniversary Celebration

The Great Ife Pharmacy Alumni worldwide is set to celebrate the 60th (Diamond) Jubilee Anniversary of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State. The celebration is scheduled to take place from the 3rd to the 6th of October 2023.

This announcement was made by Mr. Lekan Asuni, the Global Chairman of GIPAA (Great Ife Pharmacy Alumni Association), during a press conference held in Lagos.

Mr. Asuni highlighted that the Faculty of Pharmacy at Obafemi Awolowo University, through its dedication to high-quality research and education, has successfully trained nearly 4,000 pharmacists who are actively engaged in various sectors of pharmacy and related professions worldwide.

The Faculty’s alumni are united and organized under the Great Ife Pharmacy Alumni Association, which operates as a non-profit organization. The upcoming Diamond Jubilee Anniversary celebration will likely serve as a platform to commemorate the accomplishments of the faculty and its alumni over the past six decades.

He revealed that its mandates include “To engage the worldwide alumni network of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. To build a culture of Philanthropy and encourage service delivery to the Faculty in particular and the University in general. To develop and sponsor programs of the Alumni that allow for contribution to ‘The Faculty’s strategic goals.”

Mr. Lekan Asuni, the Global Chairman of GIPAA (Great Ife Pharmacy Alumni Association), outlined the various activities planned for the upcoming 60th (Diamond) Jubilee Anniversary of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Obafemi Awolowo University. These activities include:

1. Mentoring sessions for young pharmacists.
2. Groundbreaking ceremony for the Legacy hostel project.
3. Keynote lecture.
4. Plenary sessions.
5. GIPAA Set meetings.
6. OAU Community Medical Outreach.
7. Drug abuse awareness campaign.
8. Commissioning of faculty projects by GIPAA/Sets.
9. Pharmacy Graduating Students’ induction ceremony.
10. Anniversary closing banquet and awards night.
11. Anniversary thanksgiving service.

Additionally, Mr. Asuni emphasized the importance of universal access to healthcare. He stressed that the government should establish avenues for accurate diagnosis and provide access to pharmacies for obtaining medications. This aligns with the broader goal of ensuring that healthcare services are accessible and available to all members of the community.
