NLC Strike: Public schools shut down in Bayelsa

Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Bayelsa State complied with the two-day nationwide warning strike declared by the national NLC leadership by staying away from their places of work.

In the early hours of the day, Trade Union Congress (TUC) workers in the state did not observe the national strike as the TUC had withdrawn from the action, but they later left their offices to go home.

Public schools were closed, but private schools in Yenagoa remained in session. Some banks in the area partially complied with the strike, with a few opening their gates to customers.

The state NLC leadership had issued a statement announcing the two-day warning strike to press demands to the Federal Government. Workers were urged to stay at home on Tuesday and Wednesday in compliance with the strike directive.
