Africa is on the verge of commencing its first-ever African Climate Summit, featuring the theme “Advancing Green Growth and Climate Finance Solutions for Africa and the Global Community.” This significant gathering, spearheaded by Kenya’s President, William Ruto, will convene 24 Heads of State and Government hailing from Africa and beyond, all converging at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.
The primary objective of this summit is to tackle the growing impact of climate change and its associated economic burdens, with a particular emphasis on the African continent. Additionally, it will serve as a crucial platform for informing, framing, and influencing various commitments, pledges, and outcomes, ultimately culminating in formulating the Nairobi Declaration.
Apart from the unfavorable encounters that some people faced at the accreditation centers yesterday, this morning is progressing smoothly.
The scheduled speakers for the inaugural session include President William Ruto of Kenya, President Azali Assoumani of Comoros, and Simon Stiell, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
One of the key features of today’s event is the inaugural session, which revolves around the theme, “Harnessing the Potential of Tomorrow.”
This session serves as a prelude to both the ACS and African Climate Week, showcasing Africa’s potential to tackle climate challenges effectively. It underscores the necessity for a more equitable financial system and underscores Africa’s position as it heads towards the 28th Conference of Parties, scheduled for the last week of November through early December.

During the African Youth Climate Assembly held yesterday, young individuals from various African nations handed a copy of their declaration to Kenya’s President, William Ruto. Today, representatives from youth and indigenous groups will also present their declaration.
