DSS grills Adedayo, Ogun LG Chairman who accused Abiodun of diverting funds

The Department of State Services (DSS) has interrogated Wale Adedayo, the suspended Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government Area, who accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of diverting the statutory Federal Allocation due to the state’s Local Governments in the last two years.

Adedayo raised the alarm in a letter to Chief Olusegun Osoba, an elder statesman, and a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), demanding an investigation into the governor over alleged mismanagement of local government funds.

In response to Adedayo’s allegations, councillors suspended him, while Abiodun denied the claims. Adedayo confirmed that he honoured the DSS invitation and would appear before the State House of Assembly regarding the matter.

Meanwhile, the assembly has barred journalists from covering the alleged diversion of Local government funds probe. On Friday, the Assembly directed the state Accountant General, Babatunde Aregbesola, and all members of the State Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) to appear before it.

Following Adedayo’s letter, the Speaker of the Assembly summoned the state Accountant General and JAAC members to provide the House with an explanation of how LG funds have been expended in the State. Adedayo was also expected to appear before the House on Friday.

However, when journalists arrived at the Assembly on Friday, security operatives at the gate of the Assembly prevented them from gaining access to the Assembly complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. Efforts to reach the Chairman of the House committee on Information, Segun Kaka, proved abortive as he neither answered calls nor replied to text messages.
