On Saturday, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State officially appointed Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye as the new Soun-elect of Ogbomosoland. This appointment comes after the vacancy in the throne following the passing of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi Ajagungbade III in December 2021, who had reigned for an impressive 48 years and reached the age of 95.
A statement issued by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Olusegun Olayiwola, explained that the announcement of the new Soun-elect followed a comprehensive process as stipulated by the law. Olayiwola added that Governor Makinde extends his congratulations to the newly appointed Soun-elect as he ascends to the prestigious throne of his ancestors.
The commissioner emphasized that this esteemed position provides the monarch-elect with the opportunity to promote harmony, understanding, and tolerance among his people. He also encouraged all sons and daughters of the historic city of Ogbomoso to collaborate with the new monarch in order to build upon the accomplishments of his predecessors.
