Wolves’ Matheus Nunes joins Man City for €62m

The Portuguese international has become the fourth addition to our roster this summer, following the arrivals of Croatian pair Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol, along with Belgian winger Jeremy Doku.

Nunes embarked on his professional journey in the summer of 2018 when he inked a deal with Primeira Liga outfit Estoril. However, after an impressive performance against Sporting in a Taca da Liga encounter, he secured a transfer to that club in January 2019, making his senior debut for the Lisbon side in June of the subsequent year.

The 25-year-old then experienced a breakthrough season, becoming a regular in the team’s successful pursuit of a league and cup double in the 2020/21 season. He earned further recognition with a place in the Primeira Liga Team of the Season for 2021/22.

Wolves made a historic club-record payment to acquire Nunes for the following season. The midfielder enjoyed consistent appearances at Molineux during his sole full season in the West Midlands, even clinching the Premier League Goal of the Month for April 2023 with a spectacular strike against Chelsea.

Our newest recruit said of the move: “I’m so happy to be joining Manchester City, the Champions of Europe and a club I’ve admired for a long time.

“The opportunity to work under Pep Guardiola, one of the greatest managers ever, and alongside some of the best players in the world was something I couldn’t turn down.

“I’ve learned so much during my season at Wolves and I’m excited to continue improving in the Premier League, a division which brings the best out of me.

“I’m really excited to get going, meet the fans and hopefully be a part of plenty more success at City.”
