Ribadu harps on establishment of energy security agency

By David Kabiyesi

Worried about the effects of climate change, National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, has called on President Bola Tinubu to set-up a national agency for energy security.

Ribadu made this declaration at the ongoing Defence Week organised by the Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Plateau State, Prof. Ayo Omotayo, for the participants of Senior Executive Course (SEC) 45 in the institute.

Ribadu also urged the Federal Ministry of Power and of Petroleum Resources to sponsor an executive bill for the establishment of an energy security centre of excellence,

“We cannot turn a blind eye to the impact of climate change, which threatens our environment, economy and the well-being of our citizens.”

We have witnessed rising temperatures and rainfall patterns, which have led to flooding over the years claiming several lives and properties worth several millions of naira,” he added, while urging the country to take proactive measures to mitigate the impact and adapt to the changing climate.
