Tinubu is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on September 19th

Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, is scheduled to deliver an address during the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Tuesday, September 19. This marks Tinubu’s inaugural appearance at the Assembly, where he will speak before global leaders in the evening.

The Nigerian President would be the fifth African leader to speak on day one of the gathering, according to the speakers list from the Office of the General Assembly President,

As per the schedule, Tinubu will be the 14th speaker among the initial 20 leaders designated to speak on the opening day.

Cyril Ramaphosa, the President of South Africa and the 10th speaker, will lead the morning session as the first African leader to address the Assembly.

During the afternoon session, five African leaders are expected to share their perspectives with the assembly.

Around 6 pm (11 pm Nigerian time), the Nigerian president is anticipated to present his statement to the world leaders during the afternoon session.

Commencing the afternoon session, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the President of Algeria, will be the first African leader to address the gathering, succeeded by the Moroccan leader Aziz Akhannouch and Mozambique’s President Filipe Nyusi.

Macky Sall, the President of Senegal, will be the fifth African speaker of the session and will conclude the proceedings for the day.

Traditionally, Luiz da Sliva, the President of Brazil, will lead as the first world leader to deliver his address for the 78th session, followed by U.S. President Joe Biden, the customary second speaker as the host nation.

NAN reports that the 78th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 78) will open on Tuesday, Sept 5. with the inauguration of a new President, Dennis Francis of Trinidad and Tobago, who will take on the mantle for the next 12 months

The high level General Debate will be held from   Sept 19 and to Sept. 29.

The Theme of the General Assembly including the general debate will be rebuilding trust and reigniting global solidarity Accelerating action on the 2030 Agenda and its sustainable development goals towards peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all.
