Two worshipers from church perish in Ogun river due to drowning

Femi Akinola and Tunde Falade, both churchgoers, tragically lost their lives due to drowning in a river during a swimming activity on Monday. According to a statement from Omolola Odutola, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, the incident occurred after the individuals, who had come from Lagos to the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Onikoko via the Itori area, went for a swim. The unfortunate incident resulted in their deaths, and they were pronounced dead upon arrival at the Ifo General Hospital. A member of the church, Adebayo Adeosun, reported the incident to the police, revealing that a group of about seven boys from Lagos had come for the church’s inauguration on August 27, 2023, and went swimming, leading to the tragic outcome.

“The two persons who drowned were later identified as Femi Akinola (32) of Odo Eran, Itire, Lagos State and Tunde Falade (35) of Kola Alagbado, Lagos, after they were rescued from the heavy tides. They were rushed to the Health Centre in Itori where they were unfortunately confirmed dead by a medical doctor on duty.”

Odutola added that the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Olayemi Jacob, detailed his team to visit the scene upon receipt of the report, and the DPO ascertained that there were no marks of violence and no foul play suspected.
