The Akwa Ibom State Government has instructed the Chinese company Ruitai to halt its mining activities in the state until it receives clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources. Commissioner Uno Uno delivered this directive during an impromptu inspection of the company’s mining site in Esuk Ikim Akeme community, Ibeno Local Government Area. The inspection team, including Internal Security Commissioner Brig-Gen. Koko Essien (retd), found bags of black clay-like minerals weighing 50 kilograms each, identified as Titanium Ore. Uno stated that the company lacked proper documentation, had not conducted environmental assessments, and was purely an exploration company. Therefore, the team recommended that Ruitai Mining Company immediately cease its operations until proper authorization is obtained from the state government. The company has been given until September 1, 2023, to provide necessary documentation and coordinate its operations with the Ministry of Environment and Mineral Resources. Additionally, security personnel have been instructed to withdraw from the mining site, with local police authorities ensuring compliance.
