Mr. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, revealed on Monday that the Millennium Tower project will be completed within the next two years.
Wike made this announcement in Abuja following a private meeting with contractors responsible for various projects within the FCT.
The Millennium Tower, located in the Central Area of Abuja, is a versatile structure designed to encompass cultural exhibitions, tourism, social gatherings, recreational activities, hospitality services, and commercial ventures.
Salini Construction Nigeria Limited is tasked with overseeing the project; however, work was halted due to insufficient funding.
Wike emphasized the significance of the tower, noting its potential to transform the cityscape of Abuja.
“It is a very very ambitious project, but again if we are talking of Abuja being one of the best cities in the world, then we must have such a facility.
“I can tell you it is not easy to go into that project, but we have decided that whatever it takes, it is going to be one of the legacy projects for President Bola Tinubu.
“In fact, we are looking at the next two years, if the way we are going to structure our payment is agreeable with the contractor,” Wike said.
According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the project, which was conceived in 2005, had achieved a 40 percent completion rate. Upon its completion, it is anticipated that the project will sustain itself financially through revenue generated from the various commercial activities within the complex.
The project’s scope includes a cultural center with four museums, an expansive arcade featuring a 40,000m2 platform for hosting national and other events, a five-star hotel with 55 luxury rooms and nine suites catering to around 130 individuals, office spaces, passive and active recreational amenities, a 1200-seat auditorium, conference rooms, exhibition halls, shops, a sports center featuring an indoor pool, gyms, fitness facilities, and squash courts, along with a two-level basement car park capable of accommodating 1,200 vehicles.
The Millennium Tower itself stands as a 170-meter-tall structure that will house a revolving panoramic restaurant, accommodating over 130 diners at once.
