Eagles vice-captain carpets NFF over Peseiro

Super Eagles vice-captain Keneth Omeruo has hit out at the uncertainty surrounding the coaching position in the national team, describing the development as ‘crazy’ as the former African champions prepare for the September 10 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome
It is still unclear who will lead the Super Eagle out when they face the tiny African country after the NFF failed to seal a new deal with Coach Jose Peseior whose contract expired at the end of July.

The two parties were yet to agree on a new deal even though the coach is entitled to a year extension as stipulated by his initial contract.

In June, the president of the NFF, Ibrahim Gusau, announced that a public vote would decide the future of Peseiro. However, there has been no clear decision yet on whether the public vote will take place or not, leaving the situation uncertain. There have also been rumours about the NFF planning to bring in a temporary replacement for Peseiro, which has added to the confusion regarding the coaching staff.

During an interview with Arise TV, which our correspondent monitored, Omeruo voiced his frustration with the current situation. He described it as “crazy” and urged for an “urgent fix.”

The former Leganes star emphasized the significance of stability in the technical crew of the team. He stressed that having a dependable and consistent coaching staff is crucial for Nigeria to reach their full potential.

“When it comes to talent, Nigeria has amazing players,” the Turkey-based centre-back said.

“Even those that are on the bench in the national team go to their club sides and bang in goals week in, week out.
“We need to have a stable technical crew. A technical crew will take us to where we are supposed to be and give us exactly [the guidance] that we get in Europe.

“We do not even know who will be the coach in the next game. It is crazy, and it has to be fixed.”
