Ex Taraba PDP chairman Kona is dies

Victor Bala Kona, a former chairman of the Taraba state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a gubernatorial aspirant during the 2023 elections, reportedly passed away in Abuja following a period of illness.

A family insider revealed that Kona had sought medical treatment for a complex heart ailment at a hospital in London and had returned to Nigeria last Wednesday.

Unfortunately, his health took a downturn once again on Friday, leading to his urgent transfer to a hospital in Abuja, where he eventually passed away in the early hours of Sunday, August 27.

The Taraba state PDP officially confirmed Kona’s demise and expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident. In a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Andeta’rang Irammae, Kona’s death was described as an enormous loss to the state’s PDP, referring to it as a “colossal” setback.

It said: “The People’s Democratic Party, Taraba state chapter is deeply saddened by news of the death of her former chairman Chief Victor Bala Kona (Garkuwan Bakundi), which occurred early today 27th August 2023 in Abuja.

“Late Chief Victor Bala Kona (Garkuwan Bakundi) was chairman of the Party from March 2012 to August 2020, during which he worked tirelessly for the growth and sustained leadership streak of the party in the state.

“His loss at this time of our political journey is sad and colossal as the government and party that he had assiduously worked for would have continued to benefit from his fountain of wisdom and knowledge.

“May God grant us all the fortitude and succour to bear his absence and grant the party his replacement.”
