Stop raining curses on electricity workers- Says Adelabu

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has called on Nigerians to refrain from cursing electricity workers and instead offer prayers and support for their work.

He emphasized that the success of the power ministry in achieving its goal of providing reliable electricity to Nigerians depends on the positive involvement of the public. During a visit to the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) in Ibadan, Adelabu pledged to address the various challenges facing the national power grid.

He acknowledged the power sector’s critical role in Nigeria’s economic progress and stated that getting the power sector right could resolve up to 70% of the country’s issues.

Adelabu outlined his vision for the Ministry of Power, aiming to leverage the Nigerian Electricity Act of 2023 to encourage collaboration between state and federal governments in power provision.

He also emphasized partnerships between the private and public sectors, building on the foundation set by his predecessors. Adelabu urged state governors to accelerate the passage of electricity bills in their respective states to align with the Electricity Act.

Adelabu expressed gratitude for the recognition from the CCII leadership and assured the community that efforts would be made to generate hydro-electricity of 20 KVA from the Ikere Gorge Dam.

He mentioned that the dam was constructed by the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority to utilize the water resources of the Ogun River basin.

The President-General of CCII, Niyi Ajewole, encouraged Adelabu to collaborate with Governor Makinde for the advancement of Ibadanland and Oyo state. He emphasized the importance of united efforts to achieve sustainable development.

Ajewole also appreciated President Bola Tinubu for appointing a capable Ibadan representative like Adelabu to the cabinet and commended Governor Makinde for supporting Adelabu’s nomination as a state representative in the Ministry.
