Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has authorized the disbursement of a relief fund amounting to 10 million naira for soldiers who sustained injuries during combat in Borno.
This relief fund fulfills a commitment made by Governor Zulum two months ago during a Sallah event organized by the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja.
The Commissioner of Information and Internal Security for Borno State, Professor Usman A Tar, accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Government House, Barrister Mustapha Ali Busuguma, presented the Governor’s contribution to the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Peter Malla, at the headquarters of the 7 Division in Maiduguri on Saturday, August 19, 2023.
“We are here to fulfill the pledge made by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum. You may recall that the Governor was here on a Sallah day for an event, during which he expressed the commitment of the Borno State Government to the welfare of our troops and pledged a donation of N10m to wounded soldiers,” Prof Tar said.
The Governor also reaffirmed his dedication to consistently aiding and enhancing the Federal Government’s efforts in supplying logistical assistance and enhancing the well-being of the troops. He praised the military for safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity and upholding peace in Borno.
Upon receiving the contribution, Major General Peter Malla, the GOC 7 Division, conveyed gratitude to Governor Zulum for the kind gesture.
“Let me on behalf of Theater Commander welcome you to 7 Division and want also express our appreciation to His Excellency for always supporting the military,” Major General Malla said.
The GOC provided reassurance of maintaining the current state of relative peace in Borno by eradicating the remaining insurgents who continue to engage in hostilities.
