Speaker Abbas Appoints New Chairmen For 5 House Standing Committee

Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has undertaken the task of appointing new chairpersons for certain House Standing Committees due to the selection of several House members as Ministers by President Bola Tinubu.

Consequently, Abbas has designated new leaders for five Standing Committees within the House. These appointments comprise:

  • Hon. Mamudu Abdullahi (APC, Niger) as the Chairman of the House Committee on Army.
  • Hon. Pascal Agbodike (APGA, Anambra) as the Chairman of the House Committee on Hydrological Services.
  •  Hon. Dennis Idahosa (APC, Edo) as the Chairman of the House Committee on Healthcare Services.
  • Hon. Emmanuel Ukpong-Udo (YPP, Akwa Ibom) as the Chairman of the House Committee on Electronic and Digital Banking.
  • Hon. Bukar Talba (APC, Borno) as the Chairman of the House Committee on Institutional Reforms.

In a statement personally signed by Abbas on Thursday, it was affirmed that these appointments were necessitated by the selection of members of the 10th House as Ministers by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, leading to vacant leadership positions in the Committees.

The statement read: “Following the nomination of some members of the 10th House of Representatives as Hon Ministers by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and void in the leadership of some standing committees of the House, it is my pleasure to announce the appointment of (these) lawmakers to fill up the vacant positions:

“The appointments shall take immediate effect, while the legislative record shall be updated upon resumption of the House from recess.”

Recall that President Tinubu had nominated Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo (APC, Ondo) and Hon. Yusuf Tanko Sununu (APC, Kebbi) as Ministers in his cabinet.
