The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is gearing up to showcase its accomplishments in advancing local content within the telecommunications industry. Empowered by the Nigerian Communications Act (NCA) of 2003, the NCC is mandated to foster both domestic and foreign investments, introduce groundbreaking services and practices, and encourage Nigerian participation in the ownership, management, and control of communication companies, as well as the growth of communication manufacturing and supply sectors.
In alignment with these objectives, the commission is orchestrating the second edition of the Nigerian Telecommunications Indigenous Content Expo (NTICE 2023), slated to take place in Lagos. Themed “Harnessing Indigenous Content for Economic Growth: Networking to Boost Investment,” the commission is rallying stakeholders for an extraordinary event, building upon the considerable success achieved during the inaugural edition last year.
Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs at the NCC, emphasized that NTICE 2023 is in line with the provisions of the NCA 2003 and seeks to bolster the four focal points of the National Policy on the Promotion and Implementation of Indigenous Contents (NPPIC) within the telecommunications sector. These focal areas include Manufacturing, Services, People, and Research and Development for innovation, aligned with the federal government’s mission to diversify the economy.
The coordination of NTICE is under the aegis of the NCC’s Nigeria Office for Developing the Indigenous Telecom Sector (NODITS), entrusted with ensuring the effective realization of the NPPIC.
Muoka also revealed that the Expo is open to participation from multiple sectors, encompassing indigenous telecom operators, manufacturers, regulators, government bodies, policy shapers, innovators, industry pioneers, startups, telecom ecosystem participants, academia, and global experts. This diverse gathering will present an avenue for showcasing products, services, inventive solutions, and emerging technologies.
