Economy Czar, Wale Edun heads Tinubu’s finance, economy ministry

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Wale Edun as the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

The last occupant of the office was Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

Jonathan specially created the office for the ex-Managing Director of World Bank, Okonjo-Iweala.

Edun, a former Lagos State Commissioner of Finance, was until his ministerial designation was the Special Adviser to the President on Monetary Policies.

He was a member of the Presidential Transition Council (PTC).

Edun and other ministers would be sworn in on Monday, August 21, 2023.

Edun has a strong background in economics, public finance, international finance, merchant banking, and corporate finance in Nigeria and at global level.

He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics at the University of London and earned a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Sussex, England.

He has rich international finance experience spanning 25 years at World Bank/IFC in Washington DC, Wall Street firms Lehman Brothers and Chase Manhattan Capital Markets Corporation in New York, USA.

Upon his return to Nigeria in 1989, he co-founded and served as the Executive Director of Stanbic IBTC Plc (formerly Investment Banking & Trust Company Limited).

Edun also served as the Chairman of Chapel Hill Denham Group.
