In Kano, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully disrupted networks involved in the illegal supply of drugs to the state, resulting in the apprehension of at least six drug dealers during the month of July.
On Wednesday, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the acting Public Relations Officer of the Command, shared this update with journalists in Kano.
Maigatari also highlighted that, under the guidance of Abubakar Idris Ahmad, the Command has made remarkable progress in its campaign against drug trafficking, leading to a series of further arrests.
A total of 1,556 kilograms, including 106 kilograms of illicit substances, as well as 21 blocks, 64 blocks, and 16 blocks, along with 14 kilograms and 12 kilograms of cannabis sativa, were successfully seized.
Furthermore, the Command also confiscated 2,000 ampules of Pentazocine injection, along with 48 bottles of codeine syrup weighing 4.8 kilograms, during the month of July.
Numerous individuals suspected of dealing with these illegal drugs were apprehended in separate operations in and around Kano. Those arrested include Abubakar Yunusa (33), James Temitope (42), Sani Muhammad (23), Aminu Sani (23), and Emeka Williams (31).
Additionally, the NDLEA Kano Command detained Inusa Alhassan (31), Muhammad Dikko Abubakar (35), Hussaini Hamza (45), Sani Bello Dahiru (30), and Muhammad Ibrahim (30), among others.
The spokesperson further elaborated that these operations, leading to the interception of illegal drugs and the arrest of dealers, have significantly disrupted the distribution of these substances within the state. As a result, a substantial quantity of these drugs has been taken out of circulation.
“The potential harm that these quantities of illicit substances could have caused is inestimable.
“This will undoubtedly disrupt the illegal drug market and protect the community from potential harm caused by the illicit substances,” he stated.
He concluded by urging the general public to stay vigilant and promptly report any unusual activities to the NDLEA. This collective effort will contribute to the creation of a drug-free Kano, ensuring a better future for the upcoming generations.
