Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has refuted a social media report claiming that he opposed the ministerial nomination of his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai, or the recommended replacement.
Among the 48 ministerial nominees presented to the Senate by President Bola Tinubu, El-Rufai’s confirmation has been withheld due to security concerns. Last week, El-Rufai reportedly had a meeting with Tinubu and expressed his lack of interest in the ministerial position any longer. He is said to have suggested his former commissioner, Jafaru Sani, as his replacement.
Contrary to these claims, Governor Sani has disavowed the viral social media report. He clarified that during a meeting with President Tinubu, his intention was to discuss recent developments regarding his predecessor’s ministerial nomination. At no point did he oppose or reject the individual proposed by El-Rufai.
Describing the circulated narrative as false, malicious, and deceptive, Governor Sani emphasized during an interview with Channels Television that he aims to uphold the reputation of his predecessor over any other consideration. He noted that the fabricated story seems designed to sow discord between him and El-Rufai, whereas his primary concern remains preserving the image of his predecessor.
“What is true in the story is that I met with the president. Every other thing is false and a conjecture to create friction between me and Mallam (El-Rufai),” the governor explained.
“I went to see the president specifically because I was worried by the turn of events. I believe both of them mean well for the country.”
“At no time did we discuss the issue of replacement. That is the least of my worries.
“If indeed Mallam wants to nominate a replacement, I will never oppose his choice. We are on the same page. Those who know us very well know that this is all lies. We know where the disinformation is coming from but we are not bothered” he stressed.
