Nigeria NSCDC Dismantles Over 100 Illegal Refineries in Two Years

Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Commandant General of the NSCDC, disclosed that the agency has successfully located and dismantled more than 100 illegal refineries within the past two years as part of its duty to safeguard critical national infrastructure. 

This announcement was made during a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) in Abuja on Wednesday.

CG Audi further highlighted that since his appointment, the NSCDC has apprehended over 200 suspects implicated in oil bunkering-related cases, leading to the prosecution of 100 individuals. 

He emphasized that the NSCDC has established a strong reputation for combating pipeline vandalism over the last two years.

In an optimistic tone, Audi assured the NMDPRA of the NSCDC’s unwavering commitment to continued collaboration in order to achieve substantial and improved outcomes. 

He stressed that measures had been significantly escalated to ensure enhanced security for these facilities throughout the nation.

Mallam Bashir Sadiq, the Executive Director of Corporate Services and Administration at the Nigeria Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, commended the NSCDC’s leadership for effectively safeguarding critical national infrastructure, which encompasses petroleum facilities. 

He noted that the Authority had received significant support from the Corps and expressed hope that this visit would enhance the relationship between the two governmental bodies.

Sadiq urged the Corps to consistently fulfill its legal responsibilities, emphasizing the crucial role of securing the nation’s economy by preventing oil theft, which threatens economic stability.
